If this bother you, you may wish to block\nyour name from being sold by credit bureaus and can \u201copt out.\u201d of these types\nof offers.&nbsp; Later, you decide to be put\nback on these marketing lists and can always opt back in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are different levels of opt out.&nbsp; You can request to opt out from pre-approved\noffer lists for either five years or permanently. Keep in mind that the opt out\nis not immediate as these requests get routed to all the bureaus, Equifax, Experian,\nInnovis and TransUnion and take affect within five days.&nbsp; An immediate reduction in the offers you\nreceive may not be apparent right away. This is because some companies who have\nyour name may not have mailed offers to you yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Removing your name from these\npre-approved lists does not affect your ability to apply for or obtain credit\nor insurance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the purpose of privacy and ID\ntheft prevention, and because many collection agencies can use these lists to locate\nyou, it probably a good idea to opt out of prescreened credit offers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Opt\nOut Prescreen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opt Out Prescreen allows you to\nremove yourself from credit card offers.&nbsp;\nYou can do this by calling <strong>1-888-5-OPT-OUT<\/strong> (1-888-567-8688) or\nonline by visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.optoutprescreen.com\">www.optoutprescreen.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The credit bureaus offer this\ntoll-free number which allows consumers to take their names off the list given\nto credit and insurance marketing companies.&nbsp;\nThis will ultimately lead to less unsolicited ads and pre-approved\ncredit card offers showing up in your mailbox. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you opt out by phone or online,\nyou are automatically signed up for 5 years.&nbsp;\nAfter 5 years your information will be back in circulation and you will\nstart receiving pre-screened offers again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To opt out permanently, you\u2019ll have\nto sign and mail in a printed form which is also available on the Opt Out\nwebsite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Junk\nMail Opt Out<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By registering yourself with the Direct\nMarketing Association\u2019s Junk Mail Opt Out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dmachoice.org\">www.dmachoice.org<\/a>, you\u2019ll stop receiving unwanted\nadvertising in your mailbox. This registration lasts for five years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also opt out of commercial\nemail on the same website. Bear in mind that opting out with the Direct\nMarketing Association for both postal and electronic mail only applies to\nmembers of the DMA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Opting\nout of Telemarketing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To stop receiving unwanted\ntelemarketing calls, put your phone number on the national Do Not Call Registry.\nCall 1-888-382-1222 or visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donotcall.gov\">www.donotcall.gov<\/a> to register. If you are calling\nthe toll-free number, be sure to call from the phone number you want to be put\non the do not call list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can choose to remove your number\nfrom the do not call list at any time.&nbsp;\nYour number will be automatically removed if your number is disconnected\nand assigned to someone new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important to remember that the\nDo Not Call rules do not apply to every telemarketer. &nbsp;The Do Not Call Registry also won\u2019t stop\nscammers who are operating illegally or committing fraud (if they\u2019re already\ncriminals, the Do Not Call list won\u2019t deter them).
