If so, you can report the theft to the FTC and the IRS all at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/identitytheft.gov\/\">IdentityTheft.gov<\/a>, is the government\u2019s one-stop shop for people to report identity theft.&nbsp; It\u2019s also a great place to get a personal recovery plan. Just click the \u201cGet started\u201d button.&nbsp; &nbsp;If you believe your stimulus payment was stolen select the prompt &#8211; \u201cWhich statement best describes our situation\u201d. Then, click on \u201cSomeone filed a Federal tax return \u2013 or claimed an economic stimulus payment \u2013 using my information.\u201d It\u2019s as easy as that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The site will then as you some questions in order to complete an IRS Identity Theft Affidavit (IRS Form 14039) which you can submit electronically.&nbsp; This goes directly to the IRS. You can also include a personal statement about how your identity was misused to claim your economic impact payment. When you\u2019re done, you also can download a copy of the completed Affidavit for your files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An additional benefit is that the site will give you a recovery plan which contains the steps you can take to help protect yourself from further identity theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only use <a href=\"https:\/\/identitytheft.gov\/\">IdentityTheft.gov<\/a> to report suspected identity theft. If you have <strong>other<\/strong> concerns about your economic impact payment, you can visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/coronavirus\/get-my-payment-frequently-asked-questions\">Get My Payment Frequently Asked Questions<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/coronavirus\/economic-impact-payment-information-center\">Economic Impact Payment Information Center<\/a> for detailed, and frequently-updated, answers to questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you have already received your payment, you should continue to keep alert for scammers trying to steal your personal information. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to remember, the IRS will never call, text you, email you, or contact you on social media asking for personal or bank account information even if it is related to the stimulus payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should also watch out for emails and texts with attachments or links claiming to have special information about the payments.
