{"id":531,"date":"2020-06-05T17:17:15","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T17:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/currentscams.com\/?p=531"},"modified":"2020-06-10T17:05:05","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T17:05:05","slug":"crowdfunding-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/currentscams.com\/index.php\/2020\/06\/05\/crowdfunding-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Avoid a Crowdfunding Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Whether a crowdfunding campaign seems shady or not, you still need to take a critical look at any project you\u2019re looking to donate to.&nbsp; This way you don\u2019t get caught up in a crowdfunding scam.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some guidelines to follow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Do some research on the creator of the campaign.<\/strong><ul><li>Do they appear in other scams?<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Are they claiming to do something that seems too difficult as a solo project?<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Is this something outside of their area of expertise?<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>If you find anything that raises a red flag, it\u2019s a good sign you should steer clear of that campaign.&nbsp; Trust your gut.&nbsp; If it\u2019s too good to be true, it probably is.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Ask yourself if the project seems realistic.<\/strong><ul><li>A campaign with the goal of fighting the Taliban probably sounds unrealistic. Not only is the idea crazy\u2014it\u2019s also completely unrealistic. Don\u2019t bother with these types of crowdfunding campaigns.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Don\u2019t get emotional.<\/strong><ul><li>Make sure you can verify the truth of the claimed need.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Scammers are more than willing to fake illnesses and accidents to prey on kindhearted donors.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Again, do the research.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s nothing wrong with starting a crowdfunding campaign or donating to one and many of these campaigns are perfectly honest.\u00a0 There are many few greedy scammers out there that have ruined it for everyone else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do your research and make sure you\u2019re comfortable before clicking \u201csend\u201d on your donation.<\/strong>  You don&#8217;t want to fall for the crowdfunding scam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve heard the sayings \u201cbuyer beware?\u201d and \u201cif it sounds to good to be true, it probably is\u201d.&nbsp; These hold true for crowdfunding campaigns as well!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whether a crowdfunding campaign seems shady or not, you still need to take a critical look at any project you\u2019re looking to donate to.&nbsp; This way you don\u2019t get caught up in a crowdfunding scam.
